BE HONEST
You hand over the phone because you need ten quiet minutes.
You’ve run out of ideas to keep your toddler engaged — and it’s only 10am.
You don’t want every new activity to mean buying another toy.
You search for activities, save them… and never actually use them.
You want more real play and connection — you just need simple ideas.
If you nodded at any of these, you’re in very good company.
“If you have ever handed your toddler a phone just to get dinner on the table, you are not alone. Screens are everywhere, and they are easy. This book is not about guilt.”

SAFETY FIRST
Toddlers explore with their whole bodies, including their mouths. The book opens with clear safety rules that apply to every activity, and individual cards carry their own safety notes.
Please note: Activities are intended for children roughly 12–36 months and require responsible adult supervision. The book provides general play ideas and is not medical or developmental advice. If you have concerns about your child’s health or development, please speak with your paediatrician.

Toddlers roughly 12 to 36 months (ages 1–3). Each activity shows the youngest age it usually suits, like “12m+” or “2y+”. Every child develops at their own pace, so treat the ages as suggestions, not rules.
Eight kinds of play: sensory play, fine motor activities, movement games, process art, pretend play, early learning (colours, shapes, counting and words), real-life helping jobs, and music, stories and calm-down activities.
No. The activities use things most homes already have — pots and pans, cardboard boxes, socks, pasta, water, paper and tape. The Home Play Kit checklist helps you see what you’ve got, and you can swap freely for whatever’s to hand.
Most take less than five minutes to set up, and some need none at all. Every card shows a setup time. A few, like Frozen Toy Rescue, need something prepared the night before — the card tells you.
Some are, many aren’t. Every activity is labelled Low, Medium or High mess, and the Quick Picks include a “Low mess, low stress” list. The book suggests saving high-mess play for before bath time or outdoors.
Yes. Look for activities marked “12m+”, and there’s a Quick Picks list of activities that are great for young toddlers (12 months and up). Older toddlers enjoy the younger activities too.
